After dominating 2024, Bitcoin (BTC) is now starting to lose its lead as altcoins begin to show strength. This shift has sparked speculation of an altcoin season, with investors eyeing potential breakout opportunities in October. Here are three altcoins to watch:

Stacks (STX)
Stacks, a Bitcoin layer-2 project, has gained 20% in the past week. The upcoming Nakamoto upgrade, scheduled for October 9, is expected to boost decentralized finance (DeFi) on the Bitcoin network. This upgrade could introduce a Bitcoin-pegged token, sBTC. Currently priced at $1.964, STX has formed an inverse head-and-shoulders pattern, indicating a potential bullish reversal. If the altcoin breaks the $2 resistance, it could rally to $2.38 in October. Failure to breach this level could see STX drop below $1.73.

THORChain (RUNE)
RUNE, the native token of decentralized liquidity platform THORChain, has shown a 30-day price surge thanks to increasing volume. Currently at $5.34, RUNE faces resistance at $5.40 but could potentially jump 40% to $7.54 in October. However, a decline in buying pressure could see the price drop to $4.50.

Fantom (FTM)
Fantom is gearing up for its Sonic upgrade, expected to enhance transaction speed and storage efficiency. The token could also switch to the ticker “S.” FTM is currently trading at $0.67, with its 20-day EMA crossing above both the 50-day and 200-day EMAs, indicating a potential rally. If this trend continues, FTM could surge 36.70% to $0.92. However, if market sentiment turns bearish, the price might remain range-bound at around $0.65.
